The following is the biographical sketch of Edmund Ho Hau Wah, who was elected vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, on Saturday:

Male, ethnic Han, born in Macao in March 1955, of the origin of Panyu, Guangdong Province, with a university education.

1969 Went to Canada for study.

1978 Obtained a bachelor degree in business administration from York University, Toronto.

1981 Qualified as a chartered auditor and certified public accountant in Canada.

1982 Worked as auditor at KPMG Peat Marwick in Hong Kong.

1983 Returned to Macao and started himself on a business and political career. His business interests ranged from accounting, finance and banking, insurance, public transportation, mass media, technology to public utilities. He had been vice president of the Macao Legislative Council and vice chairman of the All-China Industry and Commerce Federation.

1986 Became a member of CPPCC National Committee.

1998 Assumed the position as vice chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

1999 Elected the first Chief Executive of Macao SAR.

2004 Re-elected Chief Executive of Macao SAR.
